What Is A Blog Post?

11 May 2025

This is the seventh "microblog" I am writing. A week's worth of posts seems like a good spot to change up the format.

All of the previous posts are much closer to censored journal entries than blog posts. There's no theme or topic being discussed. It's a description of my day and a short discussion of some of the more substantial points.

There is absolutely nothing about today to discuss, except that I did everything I was supposed to, as defined by the as-yet-undescribed Negative Incentives system.

An Alternate Program

I do think that the "journalling" parts of the microblogs was a positive force - analyzing my day always gave me some insights into what I could have done better. I think it would make sense to replace the public-facing blogs with real journal entries that I can include a lot more personal detail in.

I still have a desire to learn to write, and a web blog is the right place to begin that journey for me. I will add a further condition on myself to write "something substantial" every week. This doesn't mean I'll publish something every time, but I will endeavor to reach a certain word count or information volume weekly, enforced by my own judgement and that of my arbitrer.

Bass Guitar

(It felt wrong to only include one heading in the post so I'll yap a bit about bass skill development.)

Trinity College's Rock & Pop exams program has a new "diploma" qualification that I like the idea of getting. I probably have the best chance of getting one in bass guitar right now, but the recommended pieces are still way out of my reach.

There's a lot of slap and pop technique that I just haven't developed, and my max speed is still substantially limited. There's just a lot of advanced dynamics going on in all of those songs, and it's unlikely that I can play them to a satisfactory level right now.

I've been spending my 1 hour of daily instrument practice on the drums for the past few days because of how easy it is to just do basic exercises over and over again. I will try to apply that same mechanism to the bass guitar. I have some advanced bass technique books that I'll try to get through sequentially the same way I'm doing for drums. Hopefully we can see some results soon.
